Our family recently got a new kitten. On Saturday my husband took it to the vet. Our oldest, Sam helped pay the bill and thus it is considered his responsibility. We put the small cat in a pet carrying case while it "de-wormed" from all the medications the vet office gave it . Danny was getting its little area set up in the cage. It would need a water container, food container and a tiny litter box. We started discussing what we should use. Danny said we would need a small shallow dish. I suggested something and Danny said that would be too big. Then he asked me if he could use one of my lunch containers I said yeah and he left to go to the kitchen.
I was busy putting clothes away when Danny reentered our room. He came towards me with a unusually sweet smile on his face saying, "There . . . There's my small shallow dish." At first I smiled (a reflex reaction when I don't know what else to do or say). Then he gave me a big hug.
I was a little confused but I figured he had found the cat a dish. Then for a split second I thought he had a sudden change of character and decided to put aside all that stoicism that has so defined his personality. I then realized, "No.", he's being typical of his personality and playing a joke on me! I thought through what he had just said. He's calling "ME" a small shallow dish! I like being called small. I like the positive connotations of being called a dish but he just totally negated those two positives with one huge negative!! I AM NOT SHALLOW! There it was, his old self shining through brightly for me to see. He once again showed his great love for me by playing a joke on me.
