Our Dad's Favorite Songs

This one's for my youngest brother, Daniel You could say, it's from Dad and me :)

When I was young and lived at home I always knew my daddy was in a good mood when he was singing a song. It would usually be in the morning. My dad had a really nice voice. It had a bit of deepness but was within normal range for a man. It had a softness to it too. I think he would try to copy the popular singers of his teenage years like Jim Reeves. Even as his young daughter it would calm me to hear his handsome voice as he would be up early getting ready for work . Last Sunday, my sister Deena told me that my little brother Daniel (who's in college right now) has gained an interest in old country songs. My dad's favorite songs are from the 50's when he was a teenager. So this blogs for Daniel so he can learn about classic country music from our daddy.

I went to the CMT (Country Music Television) website to find a good list to help me remember most of the songs he sang and liked the most. The list is from 100 Greatest Country Songs. It is found under the heading Music on the homepage, then, Radio CMT. You can learn a lot about country music through all of their catagories. The songs are played in full like you were listening to them on the radio.

Some of our Dad's favorite songs:
Hello Walls-- Faron Young
Roly Poly-- ??
Your Cheatin' Heart-- Hank Williams
Hey, Good Lookin'-- Hank Williams (I vaguely remember Dad singing this too Mom as she was fixing supper one night. She was probably cooking beans and cornbread!)
Walkin' the Floor Over You-- Ernest Tubb
You Are My Sunshine-- Gene Autry
Back in the Saddle Again-- Gene Autry (?)
Coal Miner's Daughter-- Loretta Lynn (Dad loved this movie)
Coat of Many Colors-- Dolly Parton (Like just about everyone Dad liked any song Dolly would sing)
Act Naturally-- Buck Owens (Dad used to love watching him on HeeHaw and this song is really funny, the Beatles also sang it. I wanna learn it too)
I Walk the Line-- Johnny Cash (Dad loved the man in black. I remember once as a little girl Mom got out our "45" of A Boy Named Sue and I watched Dad as he listened to the song. He laughed really hard and loud as he listened. (He was known for that when he thought something was funny!)
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry-- Hank Williams
King of the Road-- (I can picture the singer's face but I forgot his name!)
If You've Got the Money I've Got the Time-- Lefty Frizzell
He'll Have to Go-- Jim Reeves
Have I Told You Lately that I Love You-- Gene Autry (Dad also liked his famous version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer)
